RISchools features summaries of local educational contexts prepared in EDC 102H - Introduction to American Education, an honors course at the University of Rhode Island. Each educational context report consists of information about a geographical community, a school district, and a particular school within that district. Our analysis of these schools is based on data from sources such as the US Census Bureau, KidsCount, and Information Works.
Purpose
Our purpose of these reports is to provide parents, students, teachers, community members, and anyone else with information about a few districts, communities, and schools in the state Rhode Island. The syntheses of information and analyses drawn up are all aimed toward a general audience. Demographics of students in some areas, the performance of students in different schools, and how the education in districts, communities, and schools is funded are just a few topics that these context reports cover. Other topics include the accountability of the educational systems in different districts, the expenditures for educational purposes among different cities, SALT surveys of students and teachers, and many more.
